Hello Strider,
We love the balance bike! It's awesome that the concept driving the first bikes, over 200 years ago, have come back for the wee tots. We have two boys, nearly five and nearly three, and both learned their two-wheeled balance on a strider. It was my vision that each kid would learn balance on the strider, and pedaling mechanics on a tricycle then the two would marry at the right time.
Theo (born Jan, 2010) got his Strider for Christmas before he turned two and walked on it for nearly 6 weeks until he had his first glide – "weeeee" he said. He tried pedals (on a 12" bicycle) at 3 yrs. 5 months, and while he could do it, he wasn't comfortable with it just yet. I borrowed the strider concept and removed the crank and pedals from that 12" bike, so that he could have a taller balance bike and so his 2 year younger brother (Owen, born Jan, 2012) could take over the strider (about 18 months). Theo transitioned onto a pedal bike at 4 years without ever experiencing the crutch of training wheels!
Owen (adept at the strider, fully six months ahead of Theo), took to the strider practically instantly!! Just two months ago, having ridden a strider for over a year, Owen was exposed to a pedal bike. At 22 months old, I put him on a 12" pedal bike, walked with him saying, "pedal-pedal-pedal little guy, just like the tricycle" and he took off! He used his handle bar balance checks and rode a pedal bike, without training wheels at under 3 years!! He can also ride Theo's 16" bike, albeit his feet are a good 6-8 inches from touching the ground, but he can RIDE it!
I've included a video compilation (it's 8 min but stick with it ;) of Owen's bike-learning year. Oh, and Owen was born with a critical congenital heart defect requiring open-heart reconstructive surgery at 10 days old. He also has an underlying neurological condition affecting the stability of his eye muscles, so while he now has glasses to correct astigmatism and myopia, he mostly only uses one eye for all his antics. He pretty much goes all-in all the time, smiling!
Thank you strider!! While there are other balance bikes on the market, I strongly feel that the design and engineering behind Strider is superior. It has the lowest minimum seat height yet extends high enough for an older toddler; with the narrower handlebar, smaller grips and light-weight frame geometry, it allows very small children to manipulate and maneuver the bike with little effort, more of a reflex than a process.
I feel it is the best balance bike on the market.

The bike works for it's intended use but materials are pretty cheap for the price you pay. For example bikes have a "headset", it's the bearings the on top and bottom of the frame where the fork goes through it. With a properly installed and adjusted headset there's no play between the frame and fork and the rotate rotates smooth and consistent. This does not have any sort of bearing for smooth operation or a way to really make it snug. It uses plastic washers as the headset bearings which was disappointing. It's not a bad bike but after seeing all the good reviews and taking the price into account I expected more. It's not a real good value

Perfect Gift

Comments about Strider 12 Sport Balance Bike (Black):

This Strider was purchased as a 2nd birthday gift for my granddaughter. She immediately hopped on it, and with a little help, navigated the living room and beyond. It won't be long and she'll be keeping up with her big brother! The bike arrived in record time, was packaged properly and assembled with ease. I could not find even a minor defect in fit or finish. The ability to adjust the seat and handle bar height is a great feature. Additionally, the bike is remarkably light. I'm very happy with the purchase and highly recommend Strider bikes to all.

What a great way to encourage kids to be independent and learn at their own pace. Watching my son progress through the stages of learning to ride has been very rewarding. We hope to be at some local race events within the year!

Bought this item roughly a month ago for our 18 month old. Huge hit from day 1, the bike has to come everywhere with us. Within a few days he was nipping around and is already going over small ramps etc. No compliants with the bike, very happy and we are recommending to our friends to get a strider

Comments about Strider 12 Sport Balance Bike (Black):

We got this for my son last year and it's still the first thing he runs to when we go outside. He loves riding down our hill on it now that he's figured out how to pick his feet up.
