Recaro Performance Ride This is one of the nicest seats I have seen, in feel, style, safety, and comfort. I will break it down in different categories and give my opinion for each. This is my second child so I have dealt with car seats for several years and I am a Firefighter so I help customers often with their own seats. Description of seat The materials that this car seat is made out of are amazing. You can tell that the seat is made with very high quality fabrics. The fabric is very soft and my daughter is very comfortable in the seat. I really like the soft cushy neck straps on the harness. This keeps my daughters head in the right position even when she sleeps. She looks very comfortable. I like that there is a place for the instructions to store in the rear of the seat. I also like that you are able to store the latch straps and the top tether strap. This conveniently keeps these straps out of the way when you are moving the seat. Another feature I really like are the harness pockets that allow me to store the harness out of the way so it doesn’t get stuck underneath my daughter when I am putting her in the seat. Also preventing her from getting burned from the buckles (I live in AZ). Fit First of all, I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra hatchback so it is a very small car. I was surprised at how much room was still left on both sides of this car seat for passengers to sit. I installed the car seat rear facing and I still had at least 2-3 inches before it hit the front seats and that was with the front seats in the farthest position towards the rear seat. This seat actually takes up less room then my infant seat did. It is a very tall seat but Recaro did a great job with keeping the base narrow so that it fits in smaller cars. I also like that it is taller because that means I can keep my daughter in the seat for longer rear facing and it will be longer before I have to buy a booster seat. Installation Out of the box the car seat comes set up for forward facing so if you are going to use it as a rear facing seat, like I am, then you need to move the latch strap to the rear facing belt path which requires you to remove only the front portion of the trim cover. I found this to be very easy to do. It took me only a few minutes. The car seat fit very easily into the middle rear seat of my Elantra. I felt that attaching the latch strap to my vehicles lower anchors was very easy. They give you plenty of latch strap to reach your vehicles lower anchors which is nice because my previous infant seat had short latch straps, making it harder to install. Due to the angle of my rear seat I did have to put a pool noodle underneath the car seat as described in the instructions to level the car seat. To me this was not a big deal but you should probably plan ahead and purchase a pool noodle because most cars probably will need them. Also I put a piece of 3/4 PVC inside the pool noodle so it would not collapse. After I got the seat level, I then went to tighten the seat and I had the car seat installed in about 2 minutes. I do like to get my seat extremely tight so it does take me a little longer. I always find that it is a little bit harder to install all car seats rear facing then forward facing. There are some car seats that I have helped friends install and I can tell you that I was able to get this seat installed a lot tighter. Easy of Use It is very easy to get my daughter in and out of the seat. She fits very comfortable. I love that you don’t have to feed the harness to adjust height. You just turn the knobs on the side and it harness height moves up or down. The harness not only fits her very comfortable, but it is also one of the easiest ones I have seen to tighten. The straps don’t twist and they tighten evenly on both sides. You can tell this is very high quality and Recaro knew what they were doing when designing this seat. Everything just seems to line up perfectly. Safety One of the things that sold me on this car seat is the fact that Recaro has been designing seats for over 100 years and that they make race seats. I figured if they have race seat technology that I would be getting a very safe car seat. I really like that fact that they tested the side impact standards beyond the requirements of the USA. The fact that the harness adjust so easily, and that you can line it up correctly with your child’s body alone make this safer. No more feeding harness straps through the back of the seat. You can fine tune the exact height you need for your child. Overall First I like that this is german engineering but the seat is made in the USA, so we can support our country and not some other country. Like I said earlier this car seat is one of the nicest I have seen in materials, style, comfort, and safety. I personally think it is worth every penny. You get what you pay for and I can definitely tell there is a quality difference above the other car seats I looked at. When my daughter out grows this seat and needs a booster seat, with out question I will be buying a Recaro.

I have vw golf and my son is currently rear facing at 10 months.
When i installed it, he was leaning towards the back of car too much so when he falls asleep his head drops.
So after reading hundreds of reviews, I tried putting a couple of pool noodle/blanket under the car seat. But then the car seat wasnt stable.
After struggling for a week, i finally went to the fire station to get it installed correctly.
They told me not to put anything underneath, because its not safe.

After i got it installed by instructor, my son's head still drops.
And the seat is too bulky, i can hardly check the blind spot.

I think it willbe great once he begins sitting facing forward. But for now, it is just not comfortable.
I would reccomend if you have a big car.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Plum):

I drive a Tahoe and the car seat is big. It's hard to get her in and out of the seat without bonking her head on the roof. Love that it's so breathable and easy to clean. She seems to be comfortable and likes it so far. No major meltdowns so far like in her old car seat.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Rose):

I've been using the performanceRide for 15 months and love it. My son loves it. He is comfortable whether awake or sleeping. No falling forward, and the cushion on the straps is great, no digging into his neck. Was easy to install in my small suv. Love the sapphire color. Can get him in and fast. And straps never twist.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Rose):

After reading reviews all over the internet, I went to Right Start to see which of my top choices would actually fit in the car. This one fit the best and was recommended because my little girl runs hot and the Recaro has mesh panels to keep her cool. She doesn't sweat as much as she did in her infant seat and seems comfortable. Having traveled with it, I can also say that it is easy to install as it was moved and in and out plenty of times with relative ease, and it is easy to clean as it was completely taken apart and put back together after baby threw up in it. On the down side, it is heavy! Great for safety but not so great if you're planning to travel a lot with it.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Sapphire):

Fits in 2010 Ford Fusion rear facing in middle seat with two older children able to sit well on each side. Takes up less seat space than old infant seat, but does block rear view in the middle a bit.
Seat is well built and has a lot of great features! 6 month old used to cry a lot in the old bucket style carry baby seat, but he is much more comfortable and cries less. We loved it so much we brought a second one for my husband's van. Seat is solid as a rock and I feel it overs the best protection for our little one. It is worth the extra money.
