Recaro makes excellent racing seats. They are also highly rated for their child seats. They are on par with the safety rating as the widely popular Britax convertible seats. Safety was the most important factor in my decision in choosing a convertible seat for my precious cargo. Since Recaro have high marks for safety and as an all around guy, the decision to pick the Recaro made it easier.

Another factor was the cool, breathable mesh fabric used in the Recaros. My son gets extremely hot and sweaty in his Graco infant seat. He would wake up drenched in sweat due to the non breathable fabric. I wanted the next seat to be the most comfortable and breathable. My son is much more comfortable in the Recaro. He barely sweats.

We selected the Haze color and it matched perfectly with the grey leather interior of our car.

The negative is that the seat is huge, bulky and heavy. It's a beast of a convertible seat compared to other brands. Does not have a level feature. It also does not recline in the face forward setting but most convertible seats don't. Only the Chicco Nextfit have the recline feature in forward facing setting.

I think it will be very comfortable once we switch it to forward facing. Right now we have it rear facing for our 13 month old and her legs are cramped against the seat. Our friend's car seats seem to provide more room. It is nice that the seat sits so high that she has a better view.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Rose):

Our daughter is 9 months old (30" tall) and is very comfortable in this seat. We installed it in our 2012 Subaru Outback and it fit just fine without having to move the front passenger seat. In smaller cars this would definitely be best as front facing only. In the rear facing position it somewhat cramps the space for getting her in and out due to the side impact "wings" but once you do it a couple times it is easy. There also isn't a level line on the side that faces out the door when you install this rear facing on the passenger side (we street park and don't want to load/unload in traffic). You have to walk around to the driver's side or just assume the line matches the horizontal split on the base. The base overlaps the latch points when installed in the passenger side position by about 1-2 inches so it makes tightening the belt tricky. Also, due to the placement of the latch points we cant install this in the center without loosing the ability to have other passengers in the back seat (it blocks the seat belt buckle points).
Overall a solid seat from a solid company.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Sapphire):

Ask a friend with small hands to help thread the strap through the "rear" facing slot. Nearly impossible with large hands. Fits great in the car. Would be difficult to get a large infant in and out of, but my 16 month old crawls in by her self now, saves the awkward lifting into the center- rear facing- position. LOVE this car seat.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Knight):

My daughter loves because she sits higher and can see outside the window now. It is still facing backwards because she's still to Young and small. We have it in a small car so its kinda big and bulky but that was expected. Once it is facing forward or when we get a bigger vehicle I think it will be even better.
