On February 2, 2014 we were traveling west on the 210 freeway in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. We were driving in a 2008 Toyota Camry in the slow lane, traveling approx. 65-70 mph. A 2006 Toyota Corolla was also traveling west bound in the car pool lane, traveling approx. 70 mph. The woman reached back to hand a wipe to her child in the back seat which caused her to hit the cement center divider. She traveled across 3 lanes and hit us on the driver side, right into the driver and passenger doors. Our side curtain and driver seat airbag deployed. We were pushed onto the underpass embankment and spun around. We traveled back across the freeway and landed in the fast lane facing east. My husband was knocked unconscious and he and I both sustained cervical sprains, whiplash and soft tissue damage. (Diagnosed the following day at our physicians office). Our daughter was riding in the backseat on the passenger side. Other than being severely frightened by the loud impact and airbags she was completely unharmed. On February 6, 2014 Mercury Insurance deemed our car a “total loss. I can never thank RECARO enough for keeping my most precious gift completely unharmed! We will be customers for life!!

I have vw golf and my son is currently rear facing at 10 months.
When i installed it, he was leaning towards the back of car too much so when he falls asleep his head drops.
So after reading hundreds of reviews, I tried putting a couple of pool noodle/blanket under the car seat. But then the car seat wasnt stable.
After struggling for a week, i finally went to the fire station to get it installed correctly.
They told me not to put anything underneath, because its not safe.

After i got it installed by instructor, my son's head still drops.
And the seat is too bulky, i can hardly check the blind spot.

I think it willbe great once he begins sitting facing forward. But for now, it is just not comfortable.
I would reccomend if you have a big car.

Top quality, great purchase!

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Plum):

After extensive research on which careseat would work best for us, we decided on the Recaro proRIDE. Having only heard and read great things about this car seat was a huge factor in our purchase. We have a fairly small crossover... a 2014 Jeep Compass and we were unsure how it would fit rear facing in our vehicle. Having enough leg room for the front passenger was a pretty big deal for my 5'8" husband. It took the two of us to install, and we ran into a problem with the latch belts not being long enough to use rear facing with our vehicle. So far that has been the only issue, but once our daughter is front facing it shouldn't be an issue. Despite our car being being on the smaller side as far as back seats go, the fit is great! There's enough room for my husband and I to sit in the front passenger seat without our knees hitting the glovebox (there is about a 2" gap between my husbands knees and the glovebox). There definitely wouldn't be enough room to fit 3 passengers including the car seat in the back, but that isn't an issue for us The quality of the car seat is better than many I have seen in my research. I love that you can take the covers off and wash them, which isn't a common feature from what I've seen. I feel safe knowing that my daughter is all snug inside her car seat now. Her head doesn't flop all over like it did in her infant seat, yet she still can look out the window and enjoy the view. The fact that you just turn a knob to adjust the shoulder straps is a very convenient feature as well! Overall I think that the Recaro proRIDE was a great purchase! And I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a car seat. It seems like a very sound investment!

Almosts perfect

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Plum):

I've had two of these seats for about 2 years now and they are almost perfect. Here are some pro's and con's: Pro's: -Straps are adjustable without having to take the whole seat out of the car. Great for carpooling or just as your kid gets bigger. - the shoulder pads are attached at the top which keeps the straps from getting twisted. (We also have Britax seats and the straps are always twisted and tangled) - built in head cushions make for a comfy ride and I feel like it is safer for their little heads. - I find this seat much easier to get in and out of the car than our Britax seat. - Price. the price was great in comparison to some of the other car seats out there. From what I read at the time (2 yrs ago) the safety of this seat was on par with the highest level Britax seat, but was about $100 - $150 less (can't remember exact figures) Con's: - very hard to clean. Right after we got our seat we went on a road trip and my daughter got sick and threw up. It was very difficult to get the cover off to clean it, and not all of the cover comes off (I don't think the cover on the head cushions comes off). Once the seat had been cleaned it took my husband and my dad over an hour to get the cover back on. - sits up very high. this can be a pro or a con. My daughter has a great view of what's outside her window, which she loves, but when we put it in my parent's sedan with a low door opening, it is very hard to get her in and out - particularly when she was rear facing. It was fine in my Hyundia Sante Fe and now my Honda Odyssey. - cup holder. this might seem silly to mention, but the cup holder on this thing is terrible. It's seems like a complete afterthought. It can go on either side, which is nice, but it pokes out the front of the seat making it hard for little arms to reach and completely unusable in when the seat is facing backwards. then, it is so small that most standard size sippy cups barely fit in it. If you have wider-base cups, like Nuk, they don't fit at all. I haven't been able to find an after market cup holder that will work with it. The Britax seats that we have are mid-level Britax seats bought about 4 years ago (Roundabout, I think). So, that's what I have as a comparison point. I definitely like the Recaro better.

Recaro is the best hands down

By Markemark

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Plum):

I bought the Recaro Performance ride when my son turned 1. For the last year and a half he has been the happiest and most comfortable kid in this seat. We lived an hour from town and he has never complained about comfort and he loves riding in the car. He loves his seat. We just had our 2nd child and she is a premee so i had to go out a buy a car seat last second at 6 in the morning because the car seat i brought was not approved for under 5 lbs (she lost some weight). I could not believe the cheapness of the seat I had to buy and rely upon. I immediately ordered the Performance Coupe and I am looking forward to it arriving and knowing that my child will be comfy and Safe.

Comments about RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat (Plum):

I drive a Tahoe and the car seat is big. It's hard to get her in and out of the seat without bonking her head on the roof. Love that it's so breathable and easy to clean. She seems to be comfortable and likes it so far. No major meltdowns so far like in her old car seat.
