First off, I am a trained EMT working as a Combat Medic in the US Army who worked as a Police Officer for seven years before joining the Army. I have been on many accident scenes and seen firsthand the effects of no car seats/improperly used or installed seats... This seat is the most complete option available, imho, for someone who doesn't want to buy multiple seats over the years. Even though it may cost a bit more up front, it is the ONLY seat you will have to actually buy! It is good from birth to 120lbs, it is rear facing, front facing, and changes to a booster! Even though it weighs quite a bit, I trust a metal subframe way more than plastic... And the fact that it folds flat for storage or travel means I can travel a little easier at the airport with my four kids under 8! Lastly, the 12-year lifespan means I don't have to worry about throwing it away too soon. And if the seat cover gets messed up or worn out, it is fairly cheap to replace (a fraction of the cost of a replacement seat).

I picked this seat to keep my daughter rear facing as long as possible. I didn't mind spending the extra money to do so.
However I cannot install it properly in any of our family'a vehicles (Mazda 5, Toyota Tacoma, Hyundai Tucson). It is always loose. With some tips from a local car seat tech I was able to install the seat correctly and finally got it right enough that It did not sway side to side at the bottom. But then the next day it had loosened again. This happens almost daily. Tighten and then find it's loose again. We have used UAS and the seatbelt options and tried all three back seats.
My husband can't install it rear facing at all. He just ends up using it front facing. But we didn't spend extra money to have our 1 year old forward facing. VERY DISAPPOINTED. We own two other extended rear facing car seats. And it only takes a minute or two to install them. One of them is so easy even grandma can do it.
I have tried contacting the Diono 866 number but their business hours are not compatible with my work schedule.

Comments about Diono Rainier Convertible+Booster Car Seat (Black Houndstooth):

After extensive research on car seats, we bought this one. We loved the fact it went from infancy to 120 pounds which means we never had to buy another one. It came with a 10 year warranty.

This thing is Not light weight. It is very heavy. Thus it will easily break or be damaged in a car accident.

Installed correclty, it will not budge once it's installed. When I installed it, I put it in the center of the backseat, as that's what our local law enforcement dept recommends, as it adds additional protection, since most accidents are side hits.

If you have a problem installing, take it to your local police dept, they usually have someone there who does that free of charge. If you install it and have a problem with your seat belts coming lose, it's not the car seat, it's your seat belts. They likely need to be replaced. Assuming you're installing it correctly. And yes, there is a wrong way and right way to install not only this car seat, but all car seats. According to our local law enforcement office, most are installed incorrectly.

This car in one of the best, if not the best, on the market and I highly recommend it. But do note, it's not lighweight. It's meant to withstand an accident, whether minor or severe. It's meant to protect your child, head to toe.

Our grandson found it easy and comfortable as well. He really liked the cup holder. lol..what kid wouldn't ?

But this. It's a great car seat. You won't need another one. Just know, it's heavy, it's strong, but it's to keep your child safe. It won't break in an accident.

Comments about Diono Rainier Convertible+Booster Car Seat (Black Houndstooth):

Initial set up takes a some time, but adjusting it later isn't so hard. A lot of people have complained about installation being difficult but it's mostly just because it's so heavy. But if you're looking for a carseat to move in and out of your car on a regular basis this is probably not the seat for you. We bought this seat for my son at 6 months and he is noticeably more comfortable than he was in his infant seat or Cosco Scenera. If you're going to use it rear-facing with a smaller car you'll want to buy the insert the goes underneath, it barely fit in my F-150 without it.

Comments about Diono Rainier Convertible+Booster Car Seat (Black Houndstooth):

I am a certified passenger safety technician. During a car seat check event, I noticed Diono does not have a history of recalls. When working with a family with a child that has special needs, this seat is one of the top choices to talk about because the harness weight is high, it accomodates rear facing longer, and has a backing if in booster seat mode. I picked this for my toddler after working with it hands on. The installation is different but actually doable. It may take a second to become aquainted if using the rear facing platform because other seat companies do not use the same design. This is my favorite seat and my son loves it too because his legs are comfortable, and he can get in to it on his own with out help. yes, we are in the independent toddler stage and getting in on his own is a big deal ;) .

Comments about Diono Rainier Convertible+Booster Car Seat (Black Houndstooth):

I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD WHO IS 48 INCHES AND 60 LBS. FINDING A CAR SEAT TO ACCOMODATE HIM IN A HARNESS WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE.HE ALSO HAS AUTISM SO A SEAT BELT ONLY IS NOT AN OPTION. ALMOST ALL HARNESS SEATS ONLY GO UP TO 65 LBS. AS AN ER NURSE I AM VERY SERIOUS ABOUT THE APPRORIATELY FITTING CARESEAT. THIS SEAT IS GOING TO HARNESS HIM TO 90LBS AND 57 INCHES TALL. I CAN FIT 3 OF THESE IN A ROW IN MY TINY HONDA CIVIC. I AM MORE THAN HAPPY WITH THIS SEAT. IT IS HEAVY WHICH IS PAIN TO SOME BUT MAKES ME FEEL CONFIDENT IN ITS SAFETY. ID NEVER BUY ANYTHING ELSE. WITH IT BEING GOOD FOR 10 YEARS AND GOING FROM 5 TO 120 LBS I WILL NEVER HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER SEAT AND IT WILL LAST FOR MY NOW 6 MONTH OLD TO RIDE IN NEXT.
