Magnetic Maze Boards Recalled by Lakeshore Learning Materials

Magnetic Maze Boards Recalled by Lakeshore Learning Materials Due to Choking, Intestinal and Aspiration Hazards

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Magnetic maze boards

Units: About 18,500

Manufacturer: Lakeshore Learning Materials, of Carson, Calif.

Hazard: The magnetic maze board's plastic wand can separate and expose a magnet that can be a choking hazard to children. Also, if a child has more than one of these toys and the magnets detach and are swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforations or blockages, which can be fatal.

Incidents/Injuries: Lakeshore has received ten reports of wands separating and magnets detaching. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves wooden magnetic maze boards. The wooden boards have a clear plastic sheet that covers small wooden or plastic pieces located inside a maze. A plastic wand containing a magnet in its tip is attached to the board by a cord. The wand is used to move items inside the maze. The top of the board reads: "Who's Hiding in the Garden?," "Who's Hiding in the Ocean?," "Magnetic Counting Maze," "Magnetic Alphabet Board" or "My Community Magnetic Board."

Sold by: Lakeshore Learning Materials stores nationwide, its catalogs and online at www.lakeshorelearning.com from January 2009 through May 2010 singly or in sets for between $30 and $40.

Combi Shuttle and Centre Voluntary Recall

Right Start does not currently sell the following product, but it was sold by us a while ago as an internet-only item.

Combi USA has decided to voluntarily recall the Combi Shuttle and Centre car seats and associated Travel Systems. If you have any of the following models, please contact Combi USA (www.combi-intl.com or 1-800-543-7734) to obtain the free retrofit kit. These affected models of the car seat are: 8065, 8086, 8087, and 8520. The affected models of the Travel Systems are: 4400, 4515, and 4520.

Combi USA’s Centre and Shuttle car seats have consistently met existing government safety standards. The reason for the recall is that a recent crash test found that the car seat could potentially become separated from its base in a frontal crash. Luckily this was found during a test, and Combi has created a retrofit fix for the car seat base. Until you receive your new retrofit kit, Combi recommends using the Centre or Shuttle without the base. You can find instructions on how to install the car seat without the base in the manual that came with the car seat. If you do not have the manual, you can always go to Combi’s website (www.combi-intl.com) to find out more information.

After you contact Combi for the new retrofit kit, you should expect to receive the item within 6-8 weeks. You will also not incur any shipping costs.

Recaro Como and Signo Car Seats Safety Recall

During product evaluation and feedback, it was discovered that the harness may become disconnected from the harness connector when a child is placed in or removed from the child seat. If the harness becomes disconnected and a vehicle crash occurs, your child may not be securely fastened to their child seat and may sustain an injury. Therefore, Recaro is issuing a safety recall kit containing two rubber caps for installation on the harness connector and an instruction sheet. These rubber caps will close up the gaps that will allow the harness to disconnect. Please refer to the instruction sheet or call 1-800-8-RECARO for more information.

The recall is for all colors of the Recaro Como and Signo Car Seats that were manufactured before December 18th, 2007.

The affected child restraints should not be returned to Right Start. Recaro will provide a free safety recall kit and detailed instructions to all owners. If you have an affected COMO and SIGNO car seat and have not registered your child restraint, you should contact Recaro at 1-800-8-RECARO.

Maxi-Cosi car seat base voluntary recall

Dorel Juvenile Group, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), is conducting a voluntary safety recall of the Maxi-Cosi Mico® infant car seat base. This voluntary recall is in response to the Dorel Juvenile Group’s identification of a small number of units where the car seat does not properly attach to and detach from the base. It is important to note that no injuries have been reported. It only affects items made before Feb. 18, 2008. The manufacture date is found on the top of the base.

Consumers who registered the product will receive a new base from Dorel Juvenile Group; until consumers receive the new base, they should continue to use their current car seat. Dorel Juvenile Group reminds consumers to ensure a secure connection of the carrier to the base by pulling up on the carrier once engaged with the base. Consumers who have not registered their car seats are encouraged to contact Dorel at http://www.djgusa.com/safety_notice/ or call 877-657-9546 to order.
